Get Real

Every morning I make a to-do list, and every afternoon, it's still there (despite an entire day of working). That can get exasperating. So here's my new idea: make a realistic to-do list. That would be a list of things that I could potentially accomplish in an 8-hour workday, with some wiggle room for email and random tasks that walk through the door. I'm going to try it out; I'll let you know how it goes.

I like to make a revolving to-do list. I write each task on a little post-it note and stick them all to a piece of paper (usually grouped somehow and/or arranged with the more urgent items at the top, etc.). If I'm really good I even put due dates/deadlines on them. Then when you finish something you get to tear off the post-it note and throw it away! And you don't have to rewrite everyhing you didn't finish yet onto a new list all the time... Works for me! Good luck with your new system. :)

Did you get the item that is pictured? I got this "special notebook", which is the only way I can describe it. I found it at Office Depot and I think it's called a "business notebook?" Anyway, it's very generic and you can make it what you want. It has a few spaces for headings at the top, then the page itself is divided about 1/3 in from the left. That space is blank for notes, while the rest is a numbered/lined in list form. I simply write what I need to do for each class on the lined portion and use the blank portion for any appointments or reminders I need for the day. I love that I have one page for each day...so many planners stiff you with space on the weekend. Anything that is not done that day is carried over to the next day and I can check off what I do get accomplished. One week in - it's working great!
