Flea Market Haul

I went to the flea market in Elkhorn yesterday. I was hoping to find a hutch for our dining room, but nothing really spoke to me. Well, nothing except these two Little People items. House in awesome condition: $5. Bus, also in awesome condition: $1.

Here is one weird thing I noticed about the house. From the outside, there is a little girl peeking out the door.

And from the inside, the same exact girl is peeking in the same exact door. What's up with that?

Friday Night Project

While everyone else in the world was out socializing on Friday night (which secretly I've never liked doing anyway), I was happily screen printing 100 bibs for a project at work. You know you want one.

Delicious Anniversary

Here is a picture of the gorgeous roses my wonderful husband surprised me with on our anniversary:

And here is a picture of the cake our wedding cake baker made for us. He doesn't want people to freeze the top layer, so he makes a new one on your first anniversary. I think we should get one next year, too...

Hair Today

Yesterday I did nothing to my hair. Nothing. I went for a run in the morning, then took a shower and washed my hair. But then I couldn't find my comb, so I didn't comb it, and I was too lazy to even put it in a ponytail. So it was just this blob on my head. But I got two compliments on my hair yesterday! Two! You know how many compliments I have received on my hair this entire year? Two. And they were both yesterday, when I did nothing to my hair. And honestly I think the compliments were sincere, not sarcastic. Lesson learned: Do nothing to your hair.

I also think it might be time to look into getting an additional comb or two, for those times when I do need to comb my hair. I have one, and I use it at home, at the pool, and at the yoga studio, so it is constantly being carried around in different bags. Poor comb. And as I said, I can't find it right now. It's in some bag somewhere. Or maybe instead of a comb I will get a pick- one of those like everyone had when we all had perms. Except I never had a pick. Maybe that's why my perm was so horrific.

Hopefully I can find this exact three-pack. I especially love the pink and lavender ones.

Happy Anniversary!

Today is our one-year wedding anniversary! I can't believe it's been a whole year since our wonderful wedding. To celebrate, I surprised Karl by checking out the Community Car Mini Cooper convertible (the same one we drove to our wedding) this morning. It was the pefect day for driving with the top down! First we went to breakfast at one of our favorite spots, Sophia's. It is a really cute little cafe that is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. They have delicious, made-from-scratch food.

Above the counter, they have a really cool display of spoons.

Karl had a portobella mushroom omelette. Yum.

I had cherry crepes. Double yum.

After breakfast, we drove out in the country past the barn where we got married. It was just as beautiful as it was 365 days ago. Then we stopped at a raspberry farm- the same one we stopped at on the day after our wedding! The berries were bountiful and delicious.

I just love that wedding ring!
It was the perfect anniversary morning. I went to work in the afternoon (that's where I am right now), and Karl hunkered down at home with his homework. He's probably climbing into the truck right about now to come and pick me up!

Sisterly Love

Once upon a time, I had a wooden coat hanger with a little piece broken off of one end. So I knit a cover for it. And my little sister, Hanna (who is 8 years younger than me), looked at it and said, "Seriously, Amanda? You knit that??? You knit a hanger cover? That is so stupid. A hanger cover is, like, in my list of the top ten things I would never knit."

Ten on Ten... a few days late

My friend Andi does a cute thing sometimes on the 10th of the month. She takes ten pictures of what she's doing throughout the day and posts them on her blog. So in the spirit of copying people, here are ten photos of my life on September 10th.

In the morning, I made breakfast (oatmeal and a hard-boiled egg, as usual). Here's one corner of the kitchen.

I looked out in the garage. We had a garage sale Friday and Saturday, so on Thursday morning, the garage was crammed full of things to sell. It looks disorganized in this picture, but really Lia and I had a very high-tech organizational system in place.

I packed up my trusty bike for the commute to work.

At work, I got set up for storytime...

Our theme next week is Cats, so I put together a simple cat-themed craft project.

Then I started weeding the paperbacks. The Thoroughbred series is so out of here!

At lunchtime, I rode my bike to the hardware store to get my watch battery changed. It just so happens that the hardware store is right next to Clownin' Around. No, I did not go in.

I also got change for the garage sale while I was out and about. And on the very top of one of the rolls of quarters was a drummer boy! I love drummer boy quarters, so I knew this would be a fantastic garage sale.

After work, I went to my sewing class. I'm making a toddler outfit. I've made one toddler outfit before. It had surfers and hula dancers, I think. It was kind of a disaster.

Then my sweet husband helped me make signs.
The end.

Good News

Here are three exciting pieces of awesome news:

1. Our across-the-street neighbors have a DeLorean.

2. There is probably going to be a Target built within walking distance of our house. Some people might not consider this good news, but I do! I love Target, and I'm not ashamed to say it.

3. Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team is going to have a fourth season! Tune in to CMT in October for all the drama and dance routines you could ever ask for.

SHUT UP

This morning, I was serenely browning some lamb shanks for a crock pot creation when....

BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP

After a frantic grab-and-leap onto a chair, I was able to disarm the annoying beeper. I'd like to apologize to all of our neighbors who probably thought our house was burning down. And I can't wait to open the crock pot after work!

By the kitchen window

I always love it when people put little sneak peeks of their houses on their blogs. So here is a peek at ours. It is right next to the kitchen sink.

I never thought I'd be someone who hung plates up as decorations, but guess what? I am.

The one on the top is the plate we had the Unity candle on during our wedding, and the one on the bottom is a sweet Italian plate my mom gave us the other day. Cute, huh?
