On my desk right now

I'm trying to figure out how to make a kaleidoscope with kid-friendly materials.  Plus they have to be cheap, simple to assemble, and fuctional.  So far, my best combination is:

Paper towel tube
Eyepiece made of construction paper
3 rectangles of glossy clear plastic that is meant for covering paperbacks, rubber banded together and inserted in the paper towel tube
Small plastic petri dish
Sequins
Glue dots to hold the petri dish in place

This always happens to me.

I woke up this morning with a hilarious joke in my head.  I told Karl, who of course laughed (or maybe that was a snore?).  During swimming, I thought about how great it was going to be to post my joke here on Team Struckmeyer.  Everyone would leave comments complimenting my joke-writing abilities.  I would be an internet sensation in no time.  People would be posting my jokes on their facebook walls, chortling about them with co-workers, offering me book deals.  But by the time I got out of the pool, my joke was gone!  I could not think of it to save my life.  And I still can't remember it, hours later.  All I can remember is that it had something to do with lice.  Hopefully Karl will remember the joke in all its glory and I can post it tomorrow!

Best Birthday Ever

I turned 36 on Monday.  Typically, I'm not a big birthday lover.  I may have actually lied to my roommates in college about my birthday to try to avoid celebrating.  But this year, I decided it was going to be great.  And it was!  Here's why:
  • 6am hot yoga
  • Oatmeal from a bowl, at the kitchen table, with my husband (not from a Thermos at my desk!)
  • A very short work day
  • Lunch at my favorite coffee shop (I had been looking forward to the mocha milkshake for weeks)
  • A pretty drive in the country to pick up our new kitchen table
  • An afternoon latte
  • Ice skating outdoors
  • Drinks and dinner downtown
Can't wait to do it again next year!

Golden Girl

Our sweet niece/goddaughter turned two on February 2nd!  She had a delightful party at the Children's Museum, complete with cake, friends, family, and lots of time to play.

Because it was her golden birthday, I thought it only fitting to knit her a sparkly golden cardigan:

I used this pattern (which, by the way, is awesome) and Cascade 220 Superwash yarn, stranded together with a superfun sequined thread from our local yarn shop.  Sparkle-o-rama!
